Mind you it was nothing fancy. Just pure water, fresh lemons, sugar and ice. No additions like pureed fruit or grenadine. In fact I am some what of a purist when it comes to lemonade. I have always believed that the sweet tart elixir stood on its own. I was kind of a lemonade snob if you will.
That was until a few days ago when I tasted a friend’s lemony, cucumber, dill concoction! Ahhh, so refreshing. I have found my new summer drink. This lemonade is like a trip to the spa. Somehow I feel virtuous drinking it. In my mind the cucumber cancels out the sugar.
Although I tweaked my friend’s recipe a bit I cannot, alas, take the credit for this great summer drink.
So while my pride may be hard to swallow, this lemonade is certainly not!
Gluten Free Garden Party Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5 or 6 lemons)
1 seedless cucumber, peeled and chopped
2 sprig of fresh dill, roughly chopped
¾ – 1 cup sugar
1 cup crushed ice
4 cups water
Option Garnishes – lemon slices, dill sprigs, cucumber spears
Directions
Put lemon juice, cucumber, dill, sugar (start with ¾ cup – you can add more later if you want it sweeter), ice and about 1 cup of water in a blender. Blend for about a minute. Pour into a pitcher and mix with the rest of the water. Taste and add more sugar if desired. If I add more sugar I pour some of the lemonade back into the blender and add the sugar to that, whirl for a few seconds and then stir into the rest of the mixture.
Pour over ice, garnish with any or all or none of the optional garnishes and enjoy!
Servings
Makes 6 cups of gluten free lemonade, enough for 8 -12 glasses.

I would probally like this. Like a Pimms Cup has cucumber in ti and oddly it tastes good. Most unusual.I bet its a thirst quencher.
It takes a real man, woman in this case, to swallow their pride and admit defeat. This dill infused beverage does look like a winner, but from the purist perspective, I still choose your straight up lemonade as the best!
Looks really refreshing. Perfect drink for those living in tropical places like me. I will give this a try.
Lemon aide snob? You must be one if you spell it “lemon aide” =)! I’m sure yours is just as good. Although I recently found cucumbers to be a very interesting drink addition. I had a cucumber martini a little while ago with a high quality soju that was incredible and was recently served cucumber water at a restaurant. I was mighty impressed!
What a refreshing alternative Carol. And dill too? Sounds perfect for the warmer months.
Yum! It sounds delicious. It’s really different. I think all foodies would love this.
I tried making lemonade last summer, and it was AWFUL. So sour it burned my throat.
wow, this sounds so refreshing. i will try this next time..
Dill, hmmm. It sounds yummy. And different. I like lemonade with thyme in it . . . but I can’t wait to try this.
ok…that sounds downright delicious!
will give it a try some time!
I would have never thought of mixing dill and cucumber into lemon aide, but it sounds delicious! Looking forward to trying this one out:)
This sounds absolutely delicious. I have to admit to having a deep love for dill. I put it in all my tossed salads. I’ll have to give this a try, since it will give me another way to get my daily dose of dill.

For a lemon aide snob to crown this new concoction, it must be something special. Will definitely give it a try.
That sounds so refreshing! Great for an outdoor party. I looove lemonaide, and I have always considered myself a snob in that way as well ;)
