Oh! My! God!
Hong Kong.
At last.
For as long as I can remember I have dreamed of going to Hong Kong. My parents, who were very good about taking us three kids traveling with them, would often go to Hong Kong when I was younger and would never take us. They took us to England, Switzerland, France, Spain, Taiwan, India and even Saudi Arabia but never Hong Kong.
I dreamed it must be some magical place – an adult playground – kind of like Las Vegas but instead of gambling they had shopping.
I can understand why they left us behind. It would have really distracted them from having shoes and suits made, buying fabulous jade, purses and carpets to have to keep an eye on three girls.
What can I say? I love Hong Kong. It is noisy and crowded and FABULOUS!
It is also the perfect bridge between spending a month in Mainland China and returning to the United States. Still very much Asian it is a little less…hmmm…Chinese, I guess. More people speak English, the people drive a lot more orderly and it is more expensive. The perfect way to ease back into American life.
My only regret? Not scheduling more time here. We watched a laser show that happens nightly across the city skyline, we ate perfectly cooked eggs (ok, that may not sound like much to you but to us? Heaven!) and we took a cable car to the top of a hill to climb 260 steps up to the worlds largest seated bronze Buddha statue. And we shopped a little. OK we shopped a lot. But this is Hong Kong baby!
It has been a fabulous trip but all trips must end sometime. It is time to go home.
Thanks for joining me on this wonderful adventure!

Safe travels home and enjoy!
That sounds like a really really great trip.
Now come back to the US, Starbucks got a GF cake waiting for you.
Thanks for taking us on this little trip of yours Carol! It was very entertaining…have a safe trip home!
I loved all the China posts. Travel safe.
Hi, Just want to know how easy you found it to go GF in HK? I recently moved here, and have a friend visiting in a couple of months who is gluten intolerant. Any restaurants you could recommend? And places to find GF flours, etc? Thanks a lot!
It was not that easy but it wasn’t as hard as mainland China. I was there so long ago that I think the best advise I could offer is to do an internet search. There are a lot of International restaraunts in Hong Kong so that is always an option. Stay away from Chinese food. No matter what they tell you, most of it has gluten in it. MSG is prevelant and the MSG from China contains wheat. As does the soy sauce.
