These delicious artisanal sweeteners are made at some of the smallest mills in the world. In addition to incomparable flavor, each of our products is made with exceptional care for the planet and people. Fair Trade means that our cooperative partners are paid directly for the sugar cane they grow and the honey they harvest, which helps support the farmers, their families and their communities. Whenever possible, we work with Fair Trade Certified farmers cooperatives to improve agricultural and social conditions on small family farms.

Wholesome Sweeteners holds fast to a “Fair Trade, Not Aid” philosophy. Wholesome pioneered fair trade certification for sweeteners and in so doing, fostered ever-widening agricultural and community development programs while providing stable economic resources for our cooperative partners in developing countries. We have created a viable economic incentive to protect communities, traditions and the environment. This means that farmers can compete against factory farms, keep their land (and buy more), send their kids to school, develop the quality of their crops and build community resources.

Fair Trade Certified(TM) is our guarantee that we pay the farmers a set premium for their crops. The money is wired directly from our accounts to the cooperatives’ accounts in Costa Rica, Malawi, Mexico and Paraguay.

Since the last quarter of 2005, when Wholesome Fair Trade Certified the granulated sugar line, we have paid more than $2.5 million in social premiums to our cooperative partners (the social premium is paid above and beyond the market price paid for the sugar).

Wholesome Sweeteners is wholesome for the body and the conscience!
