  • 1 dozen fresh bratwurst sausages about 3 pounds
  • 2 red onions peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 medium green bell pepper seeded and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper seeded and thinly sliced
  • 2 12-ounce bottles gluten-free beer
  • 2 cups water
  • 12 gluten-free hoagie rolls or large hot dog buns toasted, for serving
Suggested toppings: ketchup, brown mustard, sauerkraut, pickle relish
  1. Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Put the sausages into the insert and add the onions and bell peppers. Pour in the beer and water. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Remove the brats from the slow cooker and grill lightly on an outdoor barbecue or indoor grill pan.
  2. Scoop the onions and peppers out of the pot, and place into a large skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they have begun to sweat and caramelize. Serve the brats on the toasted rolls, topped with the onions, peppers, and desired condiments.
