Digesting the Holidays with Body Ecology

Oh, the holidays! It’s the most wonderful time of the year … but if you have food intolerances, it can also be a pretty scary time of year. Will I eat something that will make me sick? What if I get glutened? What if I don’t feel well but have to go to an event? If you find yourself under digestive distress after getting glutened, unintentionally consuming dairy if you’re lactose intolerant, or even if you just overindulged in the holiday sweets and feel bloated, there are a few ways you can help your body recover quicker.

First, get lots of rest. The more you relax, the better your body can focus on recovering. Second, drink lots of water to flush out the offending substances (if you’re bloated only from overeating, this step might not be for you). And last, but certainly not least, take a digestive enzyme!

Body Ecology is a company that focuses primarily on digestive health – with products like probiotics, prebiotics, kefir, superfood greens powder, spirulina, and you guessed it – digestive enzymes.

They offer a product line called Assist™ which includes a few different enzyme products. The one I like most is the Assist Full Spectrum enzyme because it is a fast-acting, high-potency formula that contains a variety of enzymes that can break down proteins with a pH from 2 to 11 (which essentially means it has a wider range than just one single enzyme that breaks down one single protein type). It includes amylase, protease, lipase, bromelain, alpha-Galactosidase, and many others. It helps with digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, sugars, and fibers. So, if you plan on eating at a holiday event or somewhere that you may not have control over the food, take an enzyme before you eat and then if you happen to get glutened, take another.

In addition to the Full Spectrum product, they offer Assist Dairy & Protein, which is helpful for those who are lactose or casein intolerant.

So, before you indulge in food this season, make sure you have some digestive enzymes on hand. You’ll be a lot merrier if you do!
